I keep reading more and more regular users were using last page instead of first unreaded post on the previous forum....

OK, so maybe make all links work as first unreaded post and if anyone for some reason want to see the first page he could go there the longer way.

To me, the easy solution is to go back to just having the page numbers right on the thread entry in the indexes. That way you can just click on the last page number.

The mobile site needs a some work. The color scheme both modern and old-school and layout is extremely hard to read on the main screen or sub forums. Seems way to zoomed in witch does not help. Posts how ever are very easy to read. Better then the old site on noble.
No way to get to the desktop site form mobile? Request desktop site does nothing on my end.
No way to jump to the last page In a thread without first opening the thread? Seems to be a missing thing on both mobile and desktop version of the site. Or maybe I'm just blind?

NO, cause that wipes out new posts markings on previous pages!

How would one implement that?

you can jump to the last post bay clicking on the date displayed in the "newest post" coloumn

^^^ This ^^^
When viewing active topics, click the thread title to go to the first post on the first page, or like Dominus says, click the time elapsed (i.e "less than a minute ago" or "42 minutes ago") to go the last post on the last page.

Personally I can see the benefit in very few situations having the pages listed in the 'active topics'. In most cases they don't really help much as they inevitably are really small to click, bloat out listings (height-wise from the active topics page) and will have to reach a point that they the majority of page numbers will get ommi...ted for threads with larger page counts. Thus rendering it only useful for threads with less than 'x' number of pages. And in return it cluters the 'active topics' page. imho.

The drop down 'jump to page' mitigates this completely (although granted it does require a few extra clicks), but in most cases (for me) I can navigate to a desired page with minial clicks and I'm not pixel hunting to jump to desired page from the 'active topics' area.

So I kinda just did it in chrome, by overriding the styles in the dev tools, but that didn't last more than 1 pageload, so I kinda gave up. But thank you for asking, because now I found this chrome plugin, Web Override: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/web … nlajll?hl=en-US

and have applied it to vogons for myself going forward. I'll probably start using this for a bunch of websites. Maybe I'll try to switch my view of this website over to the bootstra.386 or similar one of these DOS-inspired CSS libraries- https://kristopolous.github.io/BOOTSTRA.386/

or potentially a full-on synthwave css like this one https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?it … ynthwave-vscode

Unfortunately chrome mobile does not support plugins 😒

Good luck!

I just now found that on the "new posts" search you can click on the circular icon at the left side of each thread and it will take you to the 1st unread one
but it would be more convenient if you could click on the thread and go to the 1st unread post instead of the 1st page of the thread

This works for me! I'm happy again

That was what I posted as point 7 in the FAQ. Did I get the name or description wrong, as many people seemed to have missed this ?

using a css override is a good idea BUT be aware that you might eventually end up breaking things. Probably not so much on Vogons but on other sites. Just a reminder that when you use an override make sure to disable it when something seems off.

Try this one:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/styl-us/

Just tried it in FireFox, seems to work pretty good, here's my latest css:

.root {
background-image: repeating-linear-gradient(#2a2650, #98258a 20%, #2a2650 40%);
color: #dee04d
}
.table_title_link {

color: #ffd400;
text-shadow: 0 0 2px #000, 0 0 10px #fc1f2c75, 0 0 5px #fc1f2c75, 0 0 25px #fc1f2c75;
}
a {
text-shadow: 0 0 2px #001716, 0 0 3px #03edf975, 0 0 5px #03edf975, 0 0 8px #03edf975;
}
.table_head_label {
text-shadow: 0 0 2px #001716, 0 0 3px #03edf975, 0 0 15px #03edf975, 0 0 8px #03edf975;

Okay, so this is a bit nitpicky and the issue existed before the upgrade but:

This forum has some sort of feature to automatically truncate internal VOGONS.org links to only display "viewtopic.php?" etc. in the post's text instead of the full http or https link. (The actual URL is complete, of course)

BUT

It doesn't always work. At various points it has differed between working (beginning with viewtopic or whatever) and not working (displaying the full http or https URL) depending on whether the forum user was logged in via HTTP, versus HTTPS, or enclosing the URL in URL tags versus just posting the URL bare without tags and letting the forum software do its thing.

... is there a way to force this either to work or not work, and go back through the post database to make them all the same?

It's an aesthetic choice whether to prefer the auto-truncated version, but the only time the forum software should know to leave the VOGONS URL in the post alone is when the author of the post has inserted a different URL description, and that does not seem to be happening.

I know, what if the whole forum is just a big clickable HTML5 video?

Then when you want to do something you just click, and the Alexa in your room reads your brainwaves and decides what you want to do

I also notice after I create a new thread or reply to it, when I look under my posts (or your posts), it shows up 5 minutes later.
