are phones generally and cell phones specifically subject to collectors and users like old PCs, I'd imagine so - we think pc tech moves fast, phones in the last 15 years have been changing faster still

I suppose old phones are considered somehow rare, sometimes their prices are quite high on the market considering most of their features might not be able to work nowdays. But 2G networks in many countries work so even very old phone might be used as a retro passion like old cars or old computers sometimes. Obviously no modern features would work like any online applications built in or social apps or whatever but the internal features like GSM/SMS or server based web browsers, MP3 or camera features should still be interesting to use also cause there were many features phones in the previous decade that already had great impressive high end SoC, camera modules/lens, OLED screens, metal cases, impressive audio output quality etc.
Obviously once both 2G and 3G networks might be closed, these phones would become useless like a 56K computer modem.

Certain phones are somewhat collectable, you have a small group into heyday of Nokia and Ericsson's. It's all nostalgia after all!
and of course you have the Apple fan base, I watched a youtube video of someone restoring a original iPhone including back to earlier IOS

and while they are useful I personally I hate mobiles, smart phones even more. If it's important call or text, otherwise don't bother me, I'll have a look at my emails, social media or whatever when it suits me1

I'm using an ex work Nokia 6610, I've actually got a box of them, each time I loose or break one I just move to the next.
everyone says the battery life must be amazing, it's not all they are all pushing 10 years now and lucky to last 1/2 a day , but that's like a smart phone anyway 😜

A replacement battery should be less than $10. Is it not worth getting one?
My Nokia 130 (2017) last close to 2 weeks.

I went the other way and got a £5 charger that I keep in my backpack if I do need to charge.
I don't get calls much anyway. 99% of its usage is to receive the MFA code for work crap.

Work can grab me on teams if I'm signed into my laptop and if I'm not good chance I'm too busy to answer my mobile anyway.
Wife only calls if she needs something that can't wait till I get home which is rare.
and with 2 kids under 5 spontaneous social outings with mates is a thing of the past 😜

I have a boxed and complete Nokia 3310 in near mint condition. Must be worth something.

Did those come with the horrid handsfree/earbuds that made you feel like you'd just given birth through your ear after using them? 😮

Not sure, never given birth myself 😉
I only got 1 or 2 headphones, but never really used them. It's kind of cleaver that it doubles as the aerial for the radio.

There was a 2.5mm standard and you could get a nokia plug with the 2.5mm socket, but it added another centimeter to the already too easy to knock lump on the bottom of your phone.

Also available were these cradles that went into 12V cigar lighter plug and had acoustic hookups for speaker and put it onto a few milliwatts of FM broadcast to your car radio.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I just bought an Oppo A53s. My previous phone, an Oppo F1 has lasted me 5 years and still work as good as when new, but is carrier locked. With the new phone I can change to a carrier that offers a large data plan, then ditch my home broadband and hotspot my phone data instead. Should save me $25 a month, time will tell if it's a good idea or not.

Lumia 950XL Dual Sim. It may not be the youngest girl on the block, but its camera still beats most new flagship camphones. And it works as a phone, a convenient, simple to use phone. We are talking phones, right? 😀

Actually when the last one began to show signs of wear (about 5 years is plenty for a device you carry in your pocket every day), I just went and bought another one. Ok, it wasn't that simple, had to search for a new, unopened one these days. And I don't care it's no longer supported. It does calls, still works just fine with all the cloud sync, has a browser for the few cases when I need something online, and doesn't restart every day or ask to clean some storage like them Android ones.

Ulefone Armor 3. Tough as nails, can survive being submersed in a metre of concrete, truly huge battery capacity, can charge other devices, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, can scubadive without an aqualung, crash land on the moon, and you can use it as a phone as well. Also has heat vision. Only phone I felt a worthy successor to my old Nokia 6310i, now retired.

Galaxy A3 (2017), because it was one of the smaller smartphones.
Apart from the navigation and music play function I hardly use/need it, for normal computing funtions and internet it's pretty useless as touchscreens is the singlemost godawful invention after touchpads.
