Title says it all.

I usually go for Ubuntu 4 to 10 (not all work). DVD is my main media as many old systems don't have usb ports or they aren't in the boot list.

- yes, I could probably go overkill and mod a bios, but for a quick test it's not interesting
- yes, I use the boot loader (can't remember the name) that allows you to boot a dvd and then allow usb to work, but it freezes a lot
- yes, I could go for a DOS on CF card, but I prefer a GUI environment
- yes, I tried Hiren's boot but it doesn't always work

Edit: no, I'm not planning to go online or do stuff in that sense

I'm looking for an alternative on Linux or any other, even an Xp live.

I'm sure that you all get what I'm looking for. No, english lessons is on the list but not in this one.

Thanks!!

Try Puppy Linux.

I use mainly Slacko Puppy 7 (Slackware 14.2 based) or BionicPup32 (Ubuntu Bionic based), they both boot up on Pentium2 class systems, so non-SSE/SSE2 CPUs. They are light and can be burnt to a CD.

Do you have suggestions for Pentium class cpus?
Socket 5/7, I'm going backwards 😀

Thanks a lot, I'll try them both.

Old SuSE distros had a livefs disc, the 6.3 from 1999 is on archive.org
Or try the oldest Knoppix release you can find, the 3.1 is on archive as well.

You could also go with a 1 floppy based linux like tomsrtbt, or for a different thing a live BeOS disc may work.
