Hello. I have never seen anything like this. After swapping my old mobo (VIA) for a new nForce2 one i am getting this weird garbled screen when accessing Windows Update.

Before you ask, EVERYTHING ELSE is working like a charm (even surfing the net with IE). It is just Windows Update.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what's wrong with that picture (I can't read Spanish if it's the text). Is it the blue bars?

Try disabling themes and resetting your color scheme to Windows default.

Also, make sure you have the latest nForce2 drivers installed, as well as the latest video card drivers for your hardware.

You are missing the DirectX image transformation dll (dxtmsft.dll), which should exist in your SYSTEM32 directory, or it is not registered with the system (regsvr32 dxtmsft.dll). I have only seen this problem once, and it was on a system that was also missing explorer.exe and a couple other important system files (it had a spyware infection). I'm curious as to how you managed to swap to a different chipset with the same OS load. Sysprep? Repair install?

Yes, it’s my fault.

Thanks for your replies. I will take Snover's approach (which I haven't heard of before).

To HunterZ: Yes it's the blue bars what annoys me.

I have latest nForce2 drivers installed.
I have latest Catalyst 5.6 installed (ATi).
I have latest Windows Update security patches.
I am pretty sure I do not have spyware. Everything runs just fine, even surfing with IE. It's just THAT PAGE.

To Snover: Yes, i reinstalled Windows on top of itself after swapping mainboard (different chipset).

As I have said. Everything is working fine. It's just a minor cosmetic issue.

WOOHOO! Registering the DLL did the trick. It's now fixed.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SNOVER. 😎 😁

I use Opera, and Mozilla every now and then.

I just use IE for downloading Windows patches.

Best regards.

PS - I don't think that DLL got unregistered due to spyware, but probably due to the excessive use of Registry cleaners. Most of them wipe more than needed. That's why I am staying with the stand-alone WinDoctor.
