Sounds like a brilliant idea. If desktop resolution is working (obviously), DOSBox should setup that resolution by default (as safe-mode so to say), leaving you the option of changing it when you like (by editting dosbox.conf of course).

this options was always available in DosBox:
fullfixed=true
fullresolution=0x0

Perhaps this should be the default?

Current CVS outputs

fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullfixed=false
fullresolution=1024x768

So
Fullfixed=True
fullresolution=0,0

Any downside to doing this? Remember this is just to fix problems with people who know nothing about resolutions and why their screen is "messed up". Knowledgeable users can easily modify the settings.

have you tried it yourself? 😉
just install dosbox change these two options and watch the result - small screen in the middle (same goes to the option recommended by el_pusher) 😉

(and btw it is "x" not ",")

Actually fullresolution=0,0 works as does "fullresolution=", "=0/0", or "=0". 😁

Well yeah small screen....but at least there is a screen and it's all there. Only problem is it's small. Which is easily remedied by playing with the other options.

The default currently is 1024x768 which is why we get people complaining about cut off screens and "video mode not supported"

Having these settings set as default could potentially eliminate those problems leaving a new problem. "Why is my screen small". (Which we sort of already get anyway.)
