I have a Yamaha SW60XG on the way and am looking for either a registered copy or a way to register XG Gold 3.0 as the author's page is no longer up.

I found downloads for 1.3b and 2.01 via Google, but had to use the wayback machine in order to get version 3.0.

Is the author still around? Is there a way to register it? If not, anybody have a registered version? The shareware version doesn't allow saving files.

Edit: I have sent an email to the author's listed email on the old web page. Just going to wait for a response I guess.

Edit2: Found another.. not so polished program called QSEdit that can also enable the QS300 sounds on the SW60XG and DB50XG. It is free since it was in beta and was apparently not finalized.

XG-Wizard from the maker of XG-Gold would also work, but of course that isn't available anymore either.

The latter, no illegal material here please.

I tried contacting the author but got no response.

In any case, I would think that if a program is completely abandoned there wouldn't be a legal issue with trying to get a full copy.. especially if I purchased a used copy.

I bought XG-Gold in 2003 after a friend who had built his DB50XG into a box with digital output gifted me with his SW60XG, and I have very carefully kept backup copies of the program and registration codes (unlike some idiot on my QS300 group who demanded I violate the licensing conditions and accused ME of patronising him!).
Alternative editors that handle the SW60XG's QS300 voices:

Program name: XG Manager
3-4 elements: Yes
64-bit: Yes
Supported operating systems: Windows XP and upward
Author : Mark Van Den Berg
Licence : Donationware

Program name: SWEDIT
3-4 elements: No
64-bit: Yes
Author: Miroslav Vacura
Licence: Freeware apply patch at https://groups.io/g/QS300/files/swedit_patch.ZIP

Program name: XGC
3-4 elements: Yes (when opening .q3v files)
64-bit: No
Author: Jerry Jorgenrud

All I found in looking for QSedit and XG300 were broken links, and I will not be subjecting my two antivirus programs to the terrors of the Wayback Machine or the like.

That's not how copyright laws work, unfortunately.

I bought in the day a registered copy of XG-Gold. The password and the program installation came in an email. I still have the installation file(XGG-full-300.exe) and the program installed and registered on one of my old computers with WinXP.

Recently I wanted to install XG-Gold on a more actual Win(lets say 8.1....), but I have realised that I have lost the Email long ago... Achim Stulgies had curious ways to protect his creations, included the password. He used to put in it normal characters but not in the normal ASCII range, so you needed to COPY the exact text string from the email and PASTE it on the program. Then if you tried to just write the password on the program that didn't work, because the characters from the keyboard were ASCII... So it is even more hard to find my personal key.

Fortunately, I have managed successfully to copy the old entry on the WindowsXP Register to the Registry of the "new" computer. I don't know if this method is valid for the latest versions of Win, but it is worth to try it.

If somebody is interested I can put here an explanation of the process.

You have described my situation almost exactly here. I have kept an old HDD that has XG-Gold on it - I also purchased the license many years ago but no longer have the email from Achim. The OS on the HDD is XP - I tried to boot from the drive but it causes a BSOD - I can run the program off the drive but it reports of course that it is not registered. If you found a way to transfer your registration form the old registry I am very interested to know how.

🙁 I managed to load the registry hive off the old PC and find the XG-Gold key - I copied it into my new installation but alas the software still comes up as unregistered. Clearly I have missed something.

you only need the data in this registry location: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\XG-Gold
at least on win10x64 I can export this key, delete it from registry and XG Gold3.0 becomes unregistered
importing again the reg data makes the program registered again
doesn't this work for you?

No it doesn't work - the original installation was Windows XP on a logical drive - I wonder if some of this info is written into the reg data - I reinstalled the software on Windows 8.1, copied the reg data onto the new registry and it does not work for me - I'm gutted because there seems no way to contact or register this software anymore.

from what I understand something happened to the developer so all is gone forever on the front of registering the software....
I have sent you a PM with some thing to try

update: I made a fresh install of windows XP64 and copied the reg key from the old hive and hey presto it works - I am very happy. It seems that importing the key into a later OS was not working for me at all .
