alley cat, does not work as pcjr-version with my tandy. it still looks like CGA 😀

is there a projekt that converts the original installation disks of games ?

though there are over 700 PC-Dos Games that have Tandy-GFX Support,
a lot games are available for DL that have either only EGA or VGA, because
the Tandy-Parts (GFX,SFX) were not installed.

Thats 🙁

Sorry if am replying to a necro thread, but I believe the SSI Goldbox games (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades etc) had native TGA support. I remember them working on my original 1000A without installing from any special disks. I would assume this goes for other games with the same engine (Champions of Krynn, Buck Rogers Matrix Cubed or Countdown to Doomsday - but not 100% sure on these, might be VGA only).I think Eye of the Beholder (but not the sequals) also supports TGA. Can't think of too many others, I haven't done extensive testing yet.

All Gold Box engine games will work with Tandy Graphics except for Unlimited Adventures, which is VGA only. You are right about Eye of the Beholder

I still have not found a program that can take TGA screenshots (from e.g. Games) with a shortcut
and write them down to disk in a standard graphics format like e.g. PCX.
I think such a program does not exist yet 🙁
Alle the screenshot-programs need VGA or EGA.

Old MobyGames to the rescue. It indicates a program called CAMERA can capture Tandy graphics, but only if you set it up at the command line. Find it here : https://web.archive.org/web/20040703055618/ht … om/info/faq6#f8

...it was always there...right before my eyes...a tool from deluxepaint that produces LBM files that can be directly edited with dpaint himself
...steve would have said: INSANELY GREAT (like in 1984) 😀

Thx!

Here someone played some Games und ran some GUI's and Benches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLBOs1DjkwE

If I bench my machine I get:

My GFX seems to be faster, because of the more Mhz-Speed, but the CPU itself is not so fast as a 286 in the TL2 Model in the youtube-Video above.

Eye of the Beholder 1 runs quite well on my Tandy1000. It looks fantastic and uses the 3voice too.

The GalaxyMusicPlayer 2.12 does not run; i Think it demands EGA/VGA and does not support the Dac of the Tandy.

I just found out:

TDY <> EGA

TDY Lowres 16colors is the same as EGA 😀
TDY Hires 16 Colors is the same palette as TDY/Lowres/EGALowres
EGA Hires 16 Colors is different because of the 64color palette.

Because I have no Images for my Tandy1000 I started to download
Game-Titlescreens for EGA and converted them to PCX and
transfered them with DP 2.3 to LBM.

Now I can build my own Slideshow with the "gallery-tool" of Dpaint.

NICE!

Not sure what you're referring to as the "low" and "high" resolutions, but yes, palette-wise:

TGA 320x200/16-color = EGA 320x200/16-color
ETGA 640x200/16-color = EGA 640x200/16-color

Programmatically, they're different of course ("chunky" vs. bit-plane), and the Tandy ETGA video implementation doesn't support EGA's "higher-resolution," 640x350 graphics mode besides.

Great find with Eye of the Beholder, by-the-way. Dungeon crawlers tend to come across as dreary and tiresome to me, but it certainly does look and respond nicely on the RL, with rather decent Tandy and/or Ad Lib music and sound-effects to boot. As with Legend of Kyrandia, the Tandy music is more of a "chorused" version of the PC speaker soundtrack, but it comes across as unique and pleasant sounding, all-the-same.

I'd mentioned them on the Vintage Computer Forum, but Mindspan Technologies' "Face Off!" and "Joe Montana Football" are fairly impressive on the RL. Sports games aren't really my thing, but it's fun to load these up and just watch the computer play a game against itself. 😀

I played two CGA only titles recently. They both have nice DAC-Samples and are really fun to play on my RL/HD.

Trixter posted a gameplay video, captured from his IBM PC, on Youtube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJb3-GSIEsA

Mach 3 and Speed Racer uses the PC Speaker to output their samples, not the Tandy DAC.

Yes, but it sounds WAY better on the tandy (Battlechess is the same, sounds WAY better on the Tandy.)

Mach 3 and Speed Racer sound good on the Tandy because the Tandys have large PC Speaker cones, larger than even the ones on IBM's PCs, and can output to a headphone jack as well.

A tell-tale sign of a tweaked PC Speaker is a high pitched whine coming from the cone.

Battle Chess sounds better on the Tandy because it is using the Tandy sound chip to playback its samples as a DAC, which is a feature more games should have used and DOSBox does not support.

Hmm, this seems to be in the wrong forum entirely. I'll move it to Marvin for now, unless they feel it should go to Milliways.

What about the 128K dedicated to tandy-video. Originally 16K are needed vor CGA right?
Can/Should I use the other for a RAM-Disk or anything else?

If you install the 128k RAM expansion, you may have a free 64KB at A000 that could be used to hold drivers or DOS with USE!UMBS/DOSMAX.

This might prevent you from using 640x200x16 though, I'm not sure.
