Gosh. What a strange design decision. I suppose that means that if you delete a file that has a long file name, you'll end up with an "orphaned" long file name entry, too.

Probably a stapled-on afterthought. I didn't look to see what DR-DOS 8.1 does in that case, either. Both PC-DOS 7.1 and DR-DOS 8.1 are "mostly unofficial" versions that were never properly shipped and have to be frankensteined, though.

PC-DOS 7.1 was released, just not to plebes. It was evidently made available to licensees.
