I'm already going to have WIN98SE on my P4 3.2/FX5900 Ultra system for 1600x1200 Windows 98 games since the K6/Voodoo3 wouldn't be capable. The K6 machine is for 386 to Windows 95 - pre-UXGA stuff. So I am wondering if I should install Windows 95 on the K6 instead or just do 98 on both systems.

My thinking is that the games from 95-97 would have better compatibility on their native OS. I've also never had a system with Win95 before so there is a novelty factor. Is it a case where 99% of Win95 games run without issues on 98 making it not worth the trouble?

Also, is Ebay the best place to pickup these OS? I see a lot of listings where the seller has the product key prominently displayed which makes me think I should look elsewhere.

Pretty much. The subject has been discussed at length before.

Not sure where else you would go, unless you've got someplace local.

Thanks for your reply.

When I did a site:www.vogons.org search for Windows 95 Windows 98 Compatibility I found:

Windows 95 compatibility in Windows 98 "Windows 95 Compatibility in Windows 98" -- only a few mentions just 2 replies.

Re: Games that run under Win95 that don't under Win98 "Games that run under Win95 that don't under Win98" - this thread is a year after than the first and has more titles added, but only 2 posts.

Win95 vs. Win98 for pre-Pentium 200 games "Win95 vs. Win98 for pre-Pentium 200 games" - this has a few pages but is mostly just about benchmarking differences, not compatibility, and is also a different era of hardware.

Windows 95 or 98 for MS-DOS Games "Windows 95 or 98 for MS-DOS Games" -- these two pages suggest that they are identical for MS-DOS'ing with 98 perhaps being more stable but don't touch on compatibility of Windows games.
