It's apparently not booting MS-DOS 7.1, but 6.x. You can not start Win 9x on MS-DOS 6.x. Start from the setup disk once and do a "sys a: c:" at the command prompt. After that, the problem should be gone.

This sentence is entirely unclear. But if you are mixing MS-DOS files and Windows files, then this is the sort of thing you can expect.

You mean the windows 98 boot disk and it should be good?
Supose to make situation easy is to format the drive and use the windows disk.

That is one option, but "sys a: c:" only takes a second and will fix the problem just as completely.

ah, sorry, that does sound easy, is it like a command the sys a: c. thing is?
i havent done that alternate before.

"sys a: c:" (note correct punctuation) is a command that will copy the MS-DOS start-up files from the Windows 98 boot disk to your hard disk.
