Im trying to config my xcom tftd to work with both roland mt32 and
Sound blaster 16.

The game just keep crashing at startup.
If i change config to sound blaster for both music and sfx. It works
If i change music for mt-32 with no sfx. It works

But having music with mt-32 and sfx with sound blaster...nope.
Tried the softmpu and didnt get any succes as well,

Anyone has some infos for making it works ?
Im running the game from original cd
Thx

Mobygames says the game also supports SB Pro. Is this meant for PCM/OPL only or also for MIDI ?
Afaik, Sound Blasters also had their own DSP-driven MIDI before the SB16, but it wouldn't simultanously work with the PCM playback enabled.
I'm not sure, though, if this of any relevance. It's just an idea that comes to mind. SB's old MIDI interface was deprecated already by 1995.

yeah well i can see the sound blaster pro option for Sfx but even if i choose this...game still crashed...
choosing general midi and standard SB for 8-bit sound only... works... but the music is less impressive
then with MT-32 option.

i was wondering if there was some kind of patch that was making this possible....or
if its my current setup that wont allow me to do it 🙁

How is the MT-32 connected to the PC? To the SB16? If so, what is the MPU-401-compatible MIDI port address of the SB16?

its connected to the sb16 from the joystick port with midi cable.
i'd say that 90% of the games are compatible with help from softmpu
im using port 330 for midi
config for sb16 is : Port 220 , IRQ 5 and DMA 1

And IRQ 2/9 ?

Also, is there any network card or SCSI controller in the system ? Is ACPI disabled ?

i dont have any network card on my 486.
and nothing like scsi inside.

as for acpi....hmm..
i cant say.. i checked back in my bios if something similar could be found..
i noticed that the cache was enabled and turbo was on... but aside that im not sure if
it answer your question

that IRQ thing is something im still wondering.
do you mean that i should just change the SB16 IRQ to 2 or 9 ? (it was always on 5 by default)
sorry there still some stuff i didnt understood well on my old PC

Never mind. 😀
To be honest, I'm still learning about the quirks of the PC platform, as well. 😊

ACPI is a feature of 586 and beyond.
I mentioned it, because it also sits on IRQ 9.

On 286 and higher machines, IRQ 2 and 9 are connected with each other.
That's why that IRQ is often called IRQ 2/9.

The MPU-401 uses a port address (default: 330) and an IRQ (default: 2/9).
The Sound Blaster is complete independed of it. SB IRQ 5 or 7 is fine. 😀

ah ok 😀

well i saw something on cd saying it had problem.

PROBLEMS WITH DAUGHTERBOARDS
The general midi sound selection from setup only supports true
MPU-401 MIDI interfaces (such as the Roland LAPC-1 and SCC-1).
Daughterboard MIDI devices do not fully comply with the above
standard and unfortunately therefore do not work. Instead select
FM music from the Terror From the Deep setup utility. Alternatively
select 8 bit soundblaster emulation and the general midi should work.
