Metal Fatigue on newer computers will not start playing ingame music before the ingame timer hits 12 seconds. I've tried emulating in DOSBox and using two winmm wrappers (_inmm and ogg-winmm). I'm fairly convinced this is intentional behavior (since three entirely different methods agree), but I am still very curious and wants to see how it runs on real hardware. The oldest hardware I have is pretty much XP era so I can't try myself.

So does anyone's setup here start playing ingame tracks instantly in Metal Fatigue?

Have you tried running the game from the original CD to see if the music "bug" still occurs? I can't imagine playing on a Windows 98 rig would fix anything, but I'll see if I can try and get the game up and running just to verify.
