Is there any possibility to change the default DOS font resolution to something higher?
I have a DOS machine with Volkov Commander installed and it has support for higher resolution, something like EGA 9 lines (dunno if I'm writing it correctly). I mean, i want to start dos or volkov with this small font already, to not to have to change it manually 😜

I think "mode com" command has a limited ability to do that.
At least on XP you can do "mode con lines=50" (smaller text) and lines=25 (standard VGA text mode in DOS)
Many VGA cards back then had such tools included, ATI and Paradise for example. You may try these to see if they work with your VGA card.

The solution was simpler than I thought.
It's just:
MODE CON LINES=50
in autoexec.bat. Thats all 😀

I wrote my own utility to set 80x50 mode... had I known about the MODE CON stuff I wouldn't have had to haha. It even sets the typematic rate, which my program also sets. But I suppose one advantage I have is that my program preserves display contents so I will see all the error messages and whatnot that happened prior to switchover to higher line count. It also seems that it won't enforce the setting so some games that return to DOS put display to 80x25, requiring you to switch back manually.
