Ha! Yes its The 7th Guest. My bad. And thanks for the additions. I would say just to 1994 would be fine for now. After that the list would be huge once CD's really got rolling.

If you have the CD-ROM or an image file, you can look for that pressing's mastering date in the Primary Volume Descriptor. I use the disk tools in the hex editor HxD. The PVD is located just past 8000h.

Regarding the LotR CD-ROM, the only pressing these guys have documented is from 1993: http://redump.org/disc/35641/
There could've been earlier pressings, but I'd prefer some type of proof.

Same with the game The Manhole, which had a CD-ROM release on other platforms as early as 1989, but the PC release's date is sketchy. An "enhanced" PC CD-ROM was definitely released in 1992.

I can add Battle Chess Enhanced, Mixed-Up Mother Goose and Stellar 7 for 1991. More Sierra releases followed very soon and they might've been out before the end of the year. Jones in the Fast Lane has a pressing dated December 17, 1991; people sure weren't getting those in time for Christmas. Willy Beamish, King's Quest V and VI, and Space Quest IV definitely have 1992 pressings out there.

Do you have any more info on how this is done or a guide you could point to? I’ve tried this with some Bin/Cue images I have and I’m having trouble deciphering what I’m looking at.

2. Open disk. https://i.imgur.com/p0bSKUr.png (Then pick your drive - logical and physical are the same thing with removable media.)
3. Scroll down past 00008000h, or hit Search->Goto->Offset 8000

So, in fact the King's Quest VI CD release is really well documented as having slipped into 1993.

I loved MegaRace. The game was itself rather 'meh'. But the FMV was great, and the game host brilliant.

MegaTech's "Metal & lace" (1993) was available on CD instead of the original 8 floppies, not sure if the CD version was available from the start though.

Their 1994 game 'Knights of Xentar' was on CD too.

Were these games released outside of Japan? I have no problem adding them I just want to make a note if they are Japanese exclusive.

Megatech is based in Torrance so yes.

However Japan exclusive games for this criteria would be rather....FMTowns where about everything was on CD early and would sidetrack this (going to be huge) list.

Or just load the image in whatever format with UltraISO. It will show you all that info in a human-readable form.

Unfortunately, re-releases are mixed in there, so it still takes digging into each game and checking the Releases to verify.

For *nix users, you can easily use dd:

1$ dd if=/dev/cdrom bs=1 skip=33581 count=8
2199307028+0 records in

Just note that the 8+0 part is not part of the data. In this case, the date is 1993-07-02

Or for the full header:

1$ dd if=/dev/cdrom bs=1 skip=32768 count=882

Honestly, I don't think this thread should bother counting 1994; CD-ROM releases were too common by then (e.g. Doom 2).
Some early CDs from my collection that haven't been mentioned:
Ultima Underworld 1 + 2: 1993-07-02
LOOM : 1992-06-09
Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle: 1993-06-11

Some CDs didn't fill this header field in, though. E.g. my Lemmings + Oh-No More Lemmings CD has all zeroes there. You get some interesting messages elsewhere in the header though. Such as:

CRUNCY FROG MEDIA MAKERS "MMM, TASTES JUST LIKE CHICKEN"

I agree, they're going to be some massive lists. CD-ROM games weren't an oddity in 1994, even 1993 isn't likely to turn out exhaustive due to all the small publishers.

Yeah, there are various claims when it comes to PC. The Manhole is cited most of the time; it had a PC release in 1989 (5.25") and it had a CD-ROM release in 1989 (Macintosh), but the early PC CD is hard to track down.
