What format settings do I need in my CD burning app to burn CD's that will be readable in DOS and Win3x ?

ISO settings ?
File name character length's ( 8 character limit ) ?
Any other speacial setting I may need ?

I am using "Roxio" in Windows and "Burn" in OSX.

Joliet, Rock Ridge, and El Torito shouldn't cause any problems. UDF, of course, isn't understood by any of the CD extensions for DOS.

For maximum compatibility, stick with just ISO 9660, and 8+3 filenames.

The only problem wtih Joliet or Rock Ridge (or both) is that the 8.3 filenames they map to might not be what you prefer. Plain ISO9660 allows you to choose those names explicitly.

Win95 and up used Joliet for an LFN, extension. The standard requires an ISO to retain an 8.3 mapping using DOS compatible characters to the raw data. Rock Ridge and Joliet in turn map LFN data to the 8.3 file names without interfering in the basic function of the filesystem. This is transparently presented to the user on platforms that support it and ignored in those that don't.

I'm guessing that the base ISO9660 data simply wasn't mastered according to standard which resulted in an incompatible disk. Poking around Wikipedia, I see that there were other "standards" which didn't preserve backwards compatibility that could also explain this issue.

Nero 10:
Mode 1
Only ISO 9660
Max of 11 8+3
ISO 9660
untick all boxes below that.

I just drag and drop. It gets rid of any name settings other then 8+3.
When files are messed up with names (had problems in the past).
I burn an iso with my files makes them word again 😁
