Direct 3D renderer doesn't work for me either on Windows 98SE. Not even with modern patch. With dx5-dx7 I can get to menu but I get stuck at race loading screen most of the time. Only rarely I can get to race. DX8 renderer doesn't work in Windows 98. For some strange reason nglide and dgvoodoo always go through the real Voodoo 2 (and I have to switch VGA port) even though they are supposed to be just emulating it. Software renderer works fine.

In the end I managed to get Need for Speed 3 work using Direct3d dx8 renderer configured in nfs3.ini. After installing DirectX 8.1 everything works, game no longer freezes at race loading screen. Enable fog and z-buffer in advanced graphics settings otherwise game is awfully slow when weather is enabled.

hi, i just tried it on my system and luckily it works out of the box with 3d and 2d. even the 3d setup. the funny thing is NFS 4 and 5 not 😁. I didnt had to tweak anything at all.

My system is P4 2.4, FX5600 and 44.03 drivers on 98SE
