Hello all. This will be my first post here on Vogons, but I've been a LONG time lurker and "vintage" PC collector. I usually am hesitant to post on forums, as I know there's been 20+ years of discussion on similar topics to mine, but I'm just not making any progress.

Windows 98SE
Pentium 3 1000MHz (Socket 370)
ASUS CUV4X-V (Apollo Pro 133z)
512mb PC133
GeForce FX5500
SB Live! SB0060 with VXD drivers (From Phils Computer Lab, and associated links here on Vogons)

I can't seem to get my game port, or more specifically my Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro to work at *all*. I have tried everything from downloading multiple drivers, to changing channel settings, messing with my bios. I am just completely out of options and would really like this to work. I've read statments similar to "Via had sucky AGP not to mention severe compatibility issues with Live /Audigy cards", and I can't help but think that's what I'm running into currently. This sound card *WAS* completely functional in my IBM Aptiva V66XA equipped PC, both with sound and game port functionality.

At this point, even if I could get the onboard Game Port to work, and just use my SB0060 for sound purposes I would. But I hit a brick wall there as well.

I really just want to Play A-10 Cuba, and eventually buy a Gravis Gamepad. But that's not happening if I can't at least get this flight stick to work.

You guys are awesome, thanks!

I'm not an expert at getting joysticks working, but I'd check for IRQ conflicts.
If I didn't see any IRQ conflicts in normal mode I'd also check Device Manager in Safe mode.

Also make sure the Sidewinder 3d pro is set to analog mode and not digital mode.

Since the motherboard seems to have onboard sound and an onboard gameport, make sure those are disabled in the BIOS if you're using sound and gameport on a separate card.

You may have seen this thread from year 2000, but there are some suggestions there.

I was able to download the sw3dpro.vxd patch file from the archived site at
https://web.archive.org/web/19991103225805/ht … ads/default.htm
(Sidewinder 3D pro is at the bottom of the page)
but the link to the version 3.02 game controller software did not work.
You can also get the patch at https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/index.php?catid=67
