Is there a trick to stop games dumping stuff in C:\ ?

My C:\ root is accumulating stuff like LM3D.CD for Lemmings 3D, KRISALIS.CD for Starfighter 3000, CARPET.CD for Magic Carpet, etc. It's annoying, but at least they keep their stuff in directories. KKND has put its KKND.CFG and KKND.MEM in the root though, which is really annoying.

Is there any neat trick or tsr I can use to get games that are hardcoded to put their config files in annoying predetermined directories elsewhere?

But when you exit the game or whatever, won't that then cause it to not be able to find command.com.. unless you also copy other needed files such as that to the directory? Can you even subst C:\ ? I've never tried.
