I've played Deus Ex on my 98 Rig with a 1.4ghz Pentium III with a Voodoo5 on a RdRam build and it can chug at times.

I completed it in the early 2000's on an AMD K6-2 500MHz, ATI Rage 128 onboard and 128mb ram no issues
ASRock 98
Win98SE Desktop
ASRock
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz
1 x 512MB 667 MHz DDR2
Soundblaster SB0100 + Altec Lansing ADA885
ATi Radeon X800XT 256MB GDDR3
1 x SATA 120GB HDD
1 x SATA DVD-RW
I first played it on an early 2000's spec machine, no probs.
Just want to add it's one of the best games ever, I always wanted to wander round more in the cities, have more interaction, more clues, more excerpts to read and so on. Its setting and 'feel' were dark and prescient but the last 20 years has also revealed a lot of stuff that didn't form part of the Deus Ex vision of the 'future' especially the total prevalence of 'social media' . Still, I loved reading those emails and press releases, to play it now would feel strangely nostalgic for a time when emails and articles ruled the internet and pics, videos and soundbites were yet to dominate! A great game
