  • Is the Asus P2B motherboard too new to run Windows 95? I got it loaded but I'm not sure if I'm out of scope for available drivers on the chipset.
  • What's a workable sound card for 95? I have a Sound Blaster Live installed in there right now but I'm not sure if the drivers I was using for it are right. Do they exist for 95?
  • How does USB support work in Windows 95? I installed OSR 2.5 but my mouse wasn't being picked up by the system.

I'm going to try reinstalling 95 anyway because I wasn't entirely satisfied with my first attempt but am I just barking up the wrong tree in general here?

It's based on the Intel 440BX chipset, so it should work fine on Win95 OSR2.5.

What's the exact model of your SBLive card? There are Win95 drivers for those cards, but finding the correct installation CD for a particular model may be tricky. Alternatively, try the SBLive driver update pack from Creative's website. You need sblw9xup.exe.

I believe you need to install the relevant Intel chipset drivers for this to work correctly. They are still available here on the Asus website.

There is a (new) unofficial Windows 95 universal usb driver that is almost a MUST if you want USB on that OS. It requires OSR2.x.

I use this on my P133 Windows 95 PC and don't install anything else, it works flawlessly.

Thanks for the link, though! 😎

I imagine that you have reasons for preferring Windows 95 over Windows 98, but out of the box USB support is much better in Windows 98 and 98 SE . Additionally, any extra overhead that Windows 98 has over Windows 95 would be pretty much unnoticeable on a Pentium 2 class machine .

That being said, I hope you do get things working to your liking on Windows 95, if that is your preference. Except possibly for the USB issues/limitations, if should indeed work .

EDIT : A PS/2 mouse and keyboard would probably make your life easier under Windows 95 .

However, xusbsupp is just intended for mass storage devices!

That as well as maybe use of usb printers ,keyboards and mise was all it was used for back then.

So called "legacy" ports were still supplied in the majority of systems so use of common peripherals was not an issue what so ever. Using multiple devices was indeed very common. USB was an afterthought.

For instance you could daisy chain Ls120 drives, BackPack CDRom drives, printer and even a A4 flatbead scanner via the lpt port at the same time. They can also be fitted to older kit like my Zenith 286LP PLus with it's Lpt Backpack and LS120 drives...

According to https://msfn.org/board/topic/177518-xusbsupp- … indows-95-osr2/

This package does not provide a driver for USB-HID or USB peripheral devices such as keyboards, mice, or joysticks.

appiah4s link was to an unofficial upgraded/inproved usb driver , so it may well include some of those functions. Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉
