Hi,

I am trying to play some video files from around 1998 I have on my disk. The file extension is ".ev" for version 1 and ".ev2" for version 2.

Its called "EmblazeVideo" by "GEO INTERACTIVE MEDIA GROUP".

The format was used for streaming on modem lines, so quality is very limited.

With the information found here

http://ntta.szm.com/Tutors/EV2Play/JavaVid.htm
and here
http://jsr.as.wvu.edu/videos/

I managed to get the ".ev2" playing on my Windows 7 PC. But when trying to play the ".ev" I get an error "Format not correct".

I think all I need to get it running is a site still offering a ".ev" (version 1) Video for playback. I will be able to get the required Java-files from that site. But unfortunately I do not find any...

Somebody has some information about playing .ev files?

________
Also summarized what is required to get Version 2 files playing on Windows 7:
Dowload Java "jdk1.3.1". Important is that "appletviewer.exe" is included.

Dowload and extract the required files and one example video (window2.EV2) in below attachment.

At the command prompt type:
appletviewer window2.html

Made another attempt and had success. I have found a site with a .EV version 1 emblaze video at
http://k-takata.o.oo7.jp/wave/ev1997.html

I had some failures with some Java-Versions but finally it worked with "jdk-1_5_0_22-windows-i586-p.exe".

I saved the files from above site, did some modifications in the html and saved everything in attached zip.

To view the video extract the zip in a single directory and type
"\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.5.0_22\bin\appletviewer.exe" ev.html

The video "1997.ev" can be replaced very easy with your own file.

This post is just for my reference and for the unlikely case somebody else likes to view a 1997 internet video he still has in his archive 😁
