VOGONS

I've been trying to get Machines to work on my Viper V550 on Win98SE. The older Diamond drivers up to version 4.10.01.0255 work, but the control panel included doesn't work when DirectX 7 or greater is installed. The Detonator drivers on vogonsdrivers cause the game to crash when entering the options menu. Does anyone know how to get this game to work on the TNT, preferably with Detonator drivers 1-3?

FIX: Install the Voodoo3 patch from here: http://www.machinesthegame.co.uk/ or copy the following into a text document and name it 'vidcard.cap'

MEMORY_AVAILABLE_FOR_TEXTURES 4194304
MEMORY_AVAILABLE_FOR_DISPLAY 12582912

These values can probably be modified depending on how much VRAM the graphics card has. The V550 has 16MB of VRAM, so these default values work. This patch may not be required for cards with <=12MB VRAM, as my Voodoo2 works fine without it.

It seems they have converted to OpenGL and Linux, so you could just play that version instead.

I follow the Discord group for the community patch 1.5 found here: https://wiredforwar.org/topic/167/announcing- … tch-1-5-godsend. However, I would prefer to use my original discs. Does anyone know where to find 'machines-usa1.15.zip'? The archive.org links are dead and the 1.15 patch on http://www.machinesthegame.co.uk/ is corrupted. I tried using the XP patch, but it crashed more than the unpatched game on my system.

Did you ever find the official patch 1.15? It seems to be completely erased from the interwebz... the only source mentioned has a corrupted file..

It's available here: https://www.patches-scrolls.com/search.php?ga … atform=1&cnt=25

Note that it seems to be labeled wrong on that site. The "UK" (mach115u.zip) is actually US, and the "US" (mach115e.zip) is Europe.

EDIT: Actually, I'll attach them here, since who knows how long patches-scrolls will stay alive.

Wow! Not sure how I missed that. I guess I only checked 'patches-scrolls.de' and I'm still not able to find the patches over there. Thank you for uploading the patches here, just in case patches-scrolls.com goes the same way as dlh.net did in this thread: Need Patch for Machines...

There are patches on .com that haven't been moved to .de. Not only that, they have tens, perhaps hundreds of patches, that are not listed on any of the two sites. IIRC users can request them to be made available (unless they no longer have them).

You can see a lot of the missing ones on these pages: https://www.patches-scrolls.com/archives.php
