It's a well-known fact that the PC was originally designed as a boring business machine.
While various 8-bit platforms and the Amiga already had demos in the 80s, the PC had to wait until the 90s, when 386 became common.
There were only a few exceptions that could run on pre-386 PCs, listed on this page - http://www.oldskool.org/demos/explained/demo_reviews.html
A few more appeared in the recent years.

Two demos that runs on a real XT computer:

  • 8088 Corruption: released in 2004.
  • 8088 Domination: released in 2014.

Both were made by Trixter (also known as MobyGamer in some parts of the internet), who is from the Hornet demogroup.

Some demos that runs on 286 CPUs:

  • DoWhackaDo: by Renaissance and Shadow Productions, released in 1993.
  • 1991 Donut: by DESiRE, released in 2013.

Surely there's plenty of pre-386 stuff in the game/BBS intros genre, but I think they belong in another thread.
For now, I'm only including "real" demos.

i dont get the the point of the thread... just go throught scene.org or hornet and look by year.

rax by raxsoft, ega demo 1987.
coldcuts, ultraforce in 1989...

theres so many in those early years, nearly all 286 stuff
