Recently grabbed the DVD-rom (not dvd-video) version of Silent Steel. As expected, the videos won't work properly, because it was only ever made/bundled for dvd kit OEMs a la wing commander iv dvd (in particular, I think this one was meant for the original Quadrant International Cinemaster card?). I was wondering if there was any sort of patch or workaround to allow the game's video playback to work properly on anything that can handle mpeg2. Re: DVD Games, where art thou? mentions a patch that I haven't been able to find, but apparently it didn't work anyways.

That's for the 4-cd MPEG1 version. I've seen some people mistakenly refer to it as the dvd version since there's a a custom repack of said 4-cd MPEG1 version into a single ISO for convenience, which might be where you're getting confused? I don't think the dvd-rom version even works on win3.1 due to the additional drivers it needed, not that operating system is the issue anyways.
