I wanted to know if there was a pure DOS version of the game myst, I think there is not.
The windows 3.1 version is suppossed to require 4 MB RAM and a 386, Is that correct?

I'm asking because I'd love to see it running on a 286, even if it is very slow. A pure DOS version would run much better than a windows 3.1 one (in think).

I discovered scummvm can run myst, but I guess there is no DOS version of scummvm, maybe the myst engine itself can be ported to pure DOS for 286.

Technically, both Windows 3.1 and QuickTime could run on a 286 PC..
Problem might be that QT's "VR" feature isn't being implemented in such an early build that's still 286 compatible, though.
So this would require tinkering with the files, patching them, to make things run eventually.
QuickTime 2.x also had certain optimized video drivers included, for ET4000 and so on, which might be using 32-Bit/i386 instructions.

The "easiest" solution would be to get a 386 accelerator card (Intel Inboard 386/AT) for that PC or a little "Make-it 486" upgrade card.

Edit: There's an Apple II "port" (demake) that might be running in emulation (on a 286).

Thanks!.

I was programming some tests to see if a 286 (12MHz) can update the images fast enough, and it kind of works. I have a 286 12 with an OAK OTI (1MB vram), It can have two 640x480 buffers (256 colors). Full screen images can be updated at about 1.5 images per second, so It could be done, but maybe it is too much work.
