Hi.
I was thinking of bumping this topic:
Yamaha YMF743
but it's over 2 years old so I made a new topic.
I am a lurker around these forums and always found some kind of help, but now I am stuck. I have just bought a nice Toshiba Satellite 4600 laptop with Windows 98 for retro gaming.
On pure Windows everything seems fine. However I don't know how to get sound working on DOS games running from Windows 98 (NOT PURE DOS) or if it's even possible.
The audio chip is YAMAHA AC-XG WDM. The drivers are in place. I know this chip does not support pure DOS, but I read in the link provided that it may work with DOS games when launched from Win98:
": I am not convinced the YMF743 has any pure DOS compatibility. The Windows 95 drivers I found ( http://www.fujitsu.com/downloads/COMP/fpcap/d … in95/audw95.exe )do not come with any *.exe files and the datasheet ( https://www.datasheetarchive.com/pdf/download … e=M&term=ymf743 ) does not mention any Sound Blaster compatibility . Even the screenshot you posted mentions Sound Blaster compatibility in a dos box only (i.e. when running under Windows ) ."
I try to run Warcraft 2 setup and no manual settings work and no card is detected. Can someone please tell me if there is any way to get sound working for DOS under Windows 98? Or should I just accept that DOS games won't have sound. I have completely no idea if Windows 98 somehow emulates SB or something else to make this chip work in DOS boxes. Need tips.
Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.
PS. I wanted to PM the author of the previous topic @lackofpatience, but I have not yet the auth to send PMs to users 🙁
