Sure, but it's pretty simple for someone to recreate. 😀 Just load Boombastic, then change the reverb to 50 and chorus to 25.
BTW, I had a problem with X2UPLOAD. I'm doing this in Windows XP, and the Reboot button didn't seem to do anything after clicking Update. I had to unplug and replug the X2 in order for the change to take effect. Could it be an issue with XP?

What did not work ?
Reboot sends a command to X2, which makes X2 reboot instantly. In windows 7 you hear a 'ping' of the usb device being detected again.
It should work on windows XP just as well, but the XP usb driver may respond differently on the quick reboot. In case the usb device is not detected anymore,
unplugging + replugging may be a good alternative. But generally it should work.

What did not work? The newly loaded sound font would not work. Sometimes it would use the old sound font, other times I would get no sound at all when playing MIDI tracks--until I unplug and replug. Just wanted to report it in case it was something that could be fixed under XP. Not a showstopper, by any means. Thanks!

Oh okay, yes that means it is not rebooted. Strange, maybe the XP MIDI driver filters out the special message. Do you use any loop driver in between (like midi yoke). Do you see any settings in your midi driver ? But indeed an easy workaround is unplug/replug, it just less convenient.

Hello to all! New user here, reviving this thread again. Just ordered the X3M. Looking forward to rejoice the smallest and totally useable (for me) synth in the world 😀 The questions about it's use will come later 😉

BTW, the first question: according to the .dxb file architecture (xml + wav, as far as I read about it in the docs), it looks similar to the .sfz format, right? So, is it technically possible to convert .sfz files to the .dxb format? Thanks! I also have the Chicken Systems Translator converter, so just wondering if it will be of any help for me.

The Chicken systems translator HI TECH version can generate XML + WAV files.
This provides a very rough conversion (not directly usable) from other formats to dream source format.
To get from dream source (XML+WAV) to DXB format, you need the dream soundbank compiler and editor software.
--> This is available in this kit : https://www.dream.fr/pdf/Serie5000/Short_Form … 0-SDK_short.pdf

At this moment, it still needs quite some manual tweaking to get an instrument sound right after conversion.
For the GUD bank, this was completely built up by hand, using only the Dream Bank compiler / editor / SDK.
--> this results in a smaller and cleaner, more perfectionst bank, but takes a huge effort.

This is the general process, if you have any further problems or detail questions with this, you may pm me.

Thanks for the prompt answer!! I'm sure that the ready-made sets will satisfy me with my music demands, but it's always good to have some backdoor options if possible! 😀 I'll definitely pm you with my questions and concerns if such will appear later. Have a blessed day!

I came across this X2 and want to buy it for my old power rig. I like how you can swap and configure the sound fonts. It's been alluded to but I guess I need to word the question a bit differently.

Nostalgia is very much driven by the imprint our senses impart to memory when we first experience something. For video game sound, the way the Midi sounded was unique and while the sound differed from manufacturer to manufacturer, I'm assuming that the game developers themselves were going for a certain sound they had in mind based on the available hardware at the time, so old classic games tend to be remembered for the sound they had when they were released and the hardware people had to play it with.

Is this "cleanwave" or the default 16mb fonts, meant to sound just like that classic sound or is there a more "classic" file that can be used instead? I'm not complaining about having better sounding instruments or higher sampling rate or what have you. It's just that some of the sounds are better facsimiles of what you recall from your childhood BECAUSE they were lower quality. Just an example but at the end of the day I'm just curious if there's a classic file or if the default is meant to be exactly that. Thanks.

Every wavetable card sounds a little different.
Take these comparisions for example: http://www.wavetable.nl/category/comparisons/
Some games were meant to be heared on MT-32 (e.g: Dune II) others were composed to sound "correctly" on Roland Sound Canvas (e.g.: Privateer or Ultime VIII).

The X2 has the gread advantage to exchange the soundbanks, so one can try out, which soundbank fits best. Some games could even sound better nowadays than in the 90s 😁
Unfortunately there is no "Roland Sound Canvas" soundbank althought the original was only 4MB

I have received my X3M this week and I am amazed how easy it is to install it in Win 10. Just plug it in via USB and Line In, then get Coolsoft MIDI Mapper, set it as default MIDI device and you are pretty much finished!
It's praiseworthy that someone is still (or again) developing wavetable boards these days - its capabilities and sound quality (even with the default soundbank) are outstanding!

I cannot wait for the release of the upcoming Polaris soundbank since I think it's gonna sound even better than the GUD, unlocking the full potential of the X2.

Here's a demo by J33OldNew of X2 on a soundblaster 16 : [ see link in post below]

And here he shows how to upload soundbanks and effects patches : https://youtu.be/EcKn4VuUPlI
--> Note : the first midi, is played on the Microsoft Software Wavetable Synth.
You can compare with X2 playback, later in the video, with various effects settings.

Unfortunately, too fresh, the first link above does not work, is updated : https://youtu.be/eLyxJAdLFDM
There was a big overhead there, and some other problem

X2 is a very good and interesting device.
To compare Yamaha DB50XG, previous video and next, in the coming days: CancunFX, maybe something more, some external equipment, depends on time

Serge, thank you very much! I ordered X2 during Monday's evening, and with super fast shipping, it came today, also with MIDI cable which I ordered. Board looks gorgeous and it's working perfectly as well, of course. Thanks once again, looking forward for new products!
