Hello all

I just launched a campaign to professionally produce OPL2 cards cheaper than Radlib (those go usually around 90 USD on eBay).

Here's the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/19166907 … ard-adlib-clone

It's not much smaller, but the output and the potentiometer are much lower. I was basing on that design. I modified it for a request of one member of 3dfx.pl forum. Can be useful for small custom made cases too.

Sure, it's free, but ordering materials for 1-off is more expensive than my proposal. I wanted to build 5-10 at home and then sell them, but it was just too expensive. Nearly £20 for the components per board when making 10 of them and another 20 for the PCB (can drop to about 12 if you use the cheapest Chinese crap with no gold plating at all)

where do you pay 20$ for one PCB ?
chinese board with simple ENIG is around 3 - 3,50 $ per Piece / dirtypcbs.com
but no hardgold finish.. only enig gold.

I would pay around 20€ at Aisler but with extremely high quality gold plating all around. Might even be less on such a small PCB. Chinese manufacturers are a fraction of that indeed.

Then why does it say 'ENIG +$15' ?

Because you didnt count the board size in.

PCB #censored isa_opl2-gerber-1_0.zip PCB: FR4 proto / 2 layers / 7.4x10.4cm (7.4x10.4cm) / 1.6mm / ENIG / 1oz / Black / Protopack ±10 33.00$

is 3,3$ per piece + import tax/shipping..

Honestly, if I wanted a cheaper adlib clone, I'd go for the resound opl3 card

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Resound-OPL3-4-Ch … afpbo:rk:4:pf:0

It is pretty inexpensive at $60 US.

If you are located in the US it is indeed a good choice (as with the rest of lo-tech products that are now sold by texelec).
But for the rest of the world shipping+import taxes make it a 100+ card, which is no more at the inexpensive range. More options are always welcome 😉

While true, I'm looking at $100 AU for this kickstarter project for this assembled board, and $130 AU for the ebay one, so not a heap of saving there.

For myself, I ended up biting the bullet and spending about $160 to get a SB 2.0 reproduction card (made by sound magic). That gives me Adlib and sampled sound.

What kind of card? Do you have a link? Never heard about that one. Still waiting for the BlasterBoard from fellow Vogon to make progress:

Interesting. It includes a CT1336 chip instead of a CT1336A.
Seems like this card could accept a CMS upgrade. 😀

Huh. That card is marked as CLONE, but has genuine Creative ICs...? Was this a commercial product? Or is this a hobbyist reproduction?
