So where does this stand compared to the other waveblaster boards in the lineup?

Out of the blue! I saw it on PCSoundLegacy's channel before I saw it here. Sounds great.

Very nice - I have the 2MB version of the Diamond Monster DB with this chip-set and always thought it sounded great, particularly with rock sound tracks like DOOM.

Given that Yamaha 719 cards often seem to come with an unpopulated QS1000 pad (albeit perhaps for use with a 1MB on-card ROM), perhaps this module would be a good pairing for those cards.

Reason I ask was I was one of the point guys on trying to find QS1000 documentation so that MAME could emulate it, back in the day. We never ended up finding much at all other than simple datasheets, and in the end we had to make do with reverse-engineering it based on disassemblies and audio analysis. It works... okay, thanks mainly to Phil Bennett, but there's still more to be done.

The QS1000 chipset is the relevant part. In theory it shouldn't matter too much if the recordings came from the actual McQub or not. With that said, I don't see any QS1000 recordings on that site. There are some from the QS700 but I don't know how close it is.

When you click on any game from that link, you get a list of all the devices that have been recorded playing certain songs from said game. And yes, the McQub is among them (it's listed as Serdaco McQub).

The links themselves may be from 2010 sometimes, but not all the recordings are of course.
