What about this one?

This is the exact type of resistor network that I used in my replicas of the Covox Speech Thing and the FTL Sound Adapter. The latter also has a digital (Atari) joystick port.
With the R2R network in SIL package you would barely even need a PCB. You could basically solder it straight to the socket strip.
You don't really have to care about the 2% tolerance. They are just for the entire network. The resistors within the network should be even more similar than individual resistors from the same batch.
Even better - and a testament to how awful the Bournes site was that I couldn't find it 😮
Unfortunately same thing applies here - can't get it locally, so will need to wait until I do a big Mouser order...

or using sneskey dos or sneskey 9x.
It maps keyboard keys to joystick.
Dream Blaster also did a Adapter:

it works very well i own actual 4 Variants of LPT Adapters.
Maybe some Notebooks will struggle because of voltage drop across diodes.
Looking at some of those schematics they use parallel port pins 5, 7 and 9. Those are also in use for the Speech Thing (sound output via pins 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17). Doesn't sound like that will work together.
