Hi,
First of all respect to all contributors to this project. I found it kinda late so had no chanse to contribute early enough to be eligible for a proptotype. Also, as I got from reading the thread, the number of AM78C201AKC is limited and reserved for the contributors. I was wondering if there would be a chance to buy at least a pcb itself, without the parts? I guess higher volume of pcbs would make the price per item lower and I am able to source the needed parts myself (actually already have some of them).

Hello all, just to say that I released DOSMid v0.9.4 today. This version comes with GUS support (at least it works in DOSBox, don't have real hardware to test). Hopefully it should work with this awesome GUS clone you're building here guys. http://dosmid.sourceforge.net

Is it GUS or GUS PnP support?

1 MB GUS classic with pat, like cubic Player or 16 MB with fff files and Effects?

I have honestly no idea. DOSMid talks to the "ultramid" driver, don't know what this one talks to next.

The idea, then, is that it isn't direct GUS support, but via ULTRAMID. This means that it is currently impossible to get maximum quality from any type of GUS. Unless I'm mistaken, GF1 cards don't usually support drum kits other than Standard via ULTRAMID.

For InterWave, it depends on the TSR that is loaded and the ROM configuration. Without ROM and a recent version of Mega-Em loaded, or with the older ULTRAMID TSR, the PAT files will be used. With ROM and recent Mega-Em loaded, it will use the ROM-based instrument bank (though somewhat poorly, as discussed previously). Mega-Em doesn't support additional drum kits, regardless of what is in the ROM, and doesn't use the effects features of the InterWave. Mega-Em doesn't support FFF/DAT bank files in any configuration that I know of.

Delayed indeed 😀
Sorry, to get back to you only by now ... there's been a few harsh months behind and a few more ahead of me. I'll spare you the details.

Case in point ... I'm currently at a point where I want to get the project done. Any objections against starting to collect money for the production now and targetting the full production run for May (or earlier if the collection goes without hassle)? There've only been minor adjustments to the layout since the second prototype run (betatesters, if you haven't reported yet, now is your very last chance ... otherwise let's say feedback was a major disappointment, even tho I already had low expections) so I don't think another prototype run would make sense.
I haven't added support for alternative opamps, I'll likely add a DIP8 footprint and leave that as an option for people who want to use an alternative amplifier circuit. All other feature requests have been implemented or scrapped a while ago already when I was last active on here.

Current Project: new GUS PnP compatible soundcard

I missed out on the whole beta test thing by about 1-2 years, but I'd be interested in helping with production? It seems like the whole project has gone quite well from my perspective with what I've read so far...

Just wanted to clarify if you've changed that weird custom header for some future ROM expansion? I remember it has been agreed here before, I'm asking just because we've had some really hard time trying to source those receptacles and pins.
Otherwise I'm all for the production run, yay!

shock__ I'm down if you want to start collecting money and taking orders!
A note to anyone new to the thread I think orders will be prioritised to people who donated at the beginning of the project, if someone with more knowledge on the matter could confirm this I'd appreciate it.
To everyone else on the donor list is there still an interest in ordering the components together in bulk to save money and to create a kit to go with the PCB? I'm in Europe so I'll gladly club together with anyone else in the same region.
This has been a really cool project to see in the works, thanks to everyone involved.

I stream retro games every wednesday here & I dump the recordings here

https://www.mouser.de/Connectors/Headers-Wire … 1z0wxo9Z1z0z7ym or 50 (2x 25) or 25 (1x 25) Pin variants would work. The small 8 position header has been semi-integrated into the ROM footprint

i don`t have any problem with the ARGUS Prototyp it runs fine since months and i use it as daily driver on a K6 System.
So there is nothing to complain about. All issues i had in the past are ruled out, and where related to Software or faulty PNP Bios.
So i can just say, very good Job, indeed a good Card.

i tested a lot of Systems and it works on most of them flawless, the only Exception was the Epson IM 486 PC which is a PoS System and this is related due to crude BIOS Design.

Also had no issues with Noise, i'm very Happy with Headphones connected 😀

Another thing that came to my mind only yesterday. Could you leave some unused space for a hole (or even make it) for some plastic stand-off for the ROM daughterboard? Otherwise it is just floating in the air on those SMD receptacles, not even through-hole ones...

somewhere someone had recapitulized...(wtf word), i mean, taken note of all the improvements that could have been done (e.g a bit more space for some capacitors, etc etc.); just make sure you don't oversee them if possible 😀 no problem with the card for me !

50/100 pins usually is quite a tight fit (just like floppy/IDE connectors don't need additional reinforcement).

EDIT: 8 Pin DIP footprint for the Op-Amp won't happen. I'll gladly provide TDA1308 circuits for anyone who has issues sourcing them (0.50€ per piece from me)

The prototype works fine for me and I do not need any special things done to it, except a custom made bracket from PCB as suggested earlier. These could be manufactured with the production run.

it has also been said numerous times, that production costs of metal brackets are far too expensive per item 😀 3d print or go naked
