Also don't measure the capacitors right after you de soldered them from the board because the will measure differently.
See here for the explanation https://youtu.be/ZAbOHFYRFGg?t=11m10s

I'm late to the party, but this is a very cool project! The thread is quite long now, and there had been a lot of discussions about features etc. Could anyone help summarise what this card will implement, the differences with an original GUS?

I'd be very interested in one whenever the real stuff is made.

Hello Guys

Shame on me I have just so lately found this topic. Gravis Ultrasound is my passion 😀. I've owned a lot of this cards (extreme,Ace,pnp, max, calssic with and without box)
I'd love to join and help if I can. at the moment I own a pnp pro and a max.
Is there any list for groupbuys or how it works ?

Thanks

This is really one of those threads that you should read all the way through, from the beginning. There is just way to much to cover to simply answer your question in a single post without a wall of text. You'll also find you aren't the first to pop in and ask the same thing. I'm not trying to act like a douche, just trying to point out that everything you need to know on the topic is in the thread, and it's really not that long.

I guess it's not for me. Reading all the way through is going to start today after work. This topic made my day even if all the cards have been already
reserved for you guys 😊

Once you get through the whole thread, you'll see that there should be a second batch in the future. Also all relevant materials will be made public so a group buy could be done on the PCB's and InterWeave chips. All other parts will be able to be sourced by the individual at reasonable cost. It will be up to that individual to supply their own legal ROM, but that's about it. If you miss out on the second batch, I'm sure you wouldn't have a hard time finding a group buy on places like Vogons, or Amibay.

Good news everyone!
The project is far from dead and I actually spent the afternoon soldering the remaining components and giving the card a first go.
No magic smoke so far 😀

Bad news everyone!
Currently the card does exactly nothing except for outputting a click when the computer is turned on (which tells me that the output circuit is working to a degree at least). I've spent a bit of time debugging already, checking the adress translation along with the reset circuit - those should be fine. Also confirmed the serial EEPROM I'm using goes with the InterWave chip. I'm currently suspecting either the clock circuit to be badly designed, the InterWave I picked being dead, an error during the reverse engineering happened or there's a bad solder joint - lots of possibilities, some being easy to find/fix, others being a major pain. Also turned out one of the DRAM chips I used was dead and became as hot as a stove plate after 10 seconds - that one has been removed for the time being.
I hope to get this worked out within the next few days as I'll be mostly busy with other things in the first 2 weeks of january.

Good news everyone!
I managed to figure out what I did wrong (it actually came down to the ROM config solderjumpers). Card gets recognized by PNPMAP.EXE and the serial EEPROM can be flashed!
In fact I just ran Second Reality on the card and it sounds good 😀

Bad news everyone!
Somehow the Wavetable ROM doesn't get recognized by IWINIT.EXE (might be a bad ROM chip actually) and whenever I set the card to use the SIMM slot I get a PNP error (could be the wrong kind of SIMM used - using 512k via DRAM works) - but great to see the card is up and running, albeit at a reduced feature set for now.

More good news!
16MB working with a different SIMM
EDIT: Joystick also working (that's one thing I was also kinda worried about).

So only thing left for now is the Wavetable ROM
