The problem is that tracks which use the default drum kit STANDARD don't have a patch change for it on channel 10. Since the first track that plays upon loading uses ORCHESTRA, incorrect drumkits play during the game, and in fact anytime a STANDARD intended track follows a non-STANDARD one, if that makes sense.

If you reset the unit between every MIDI file externally (or insert a 001 program change in the offending tracks), they'll all play as intended outside the game.

I don't know about game versions, or SC versions maybe behaving differently and not showing/having the issue.

just a heads up, i have gotten sound canvas va v1.0.3 activated under xp sp2, both 32bit and 64bit, so it's not impossible. you will need a sse2 capable cpu and the c++ 2010 runtime library. 64bit just worked, but 32bit required a 'portable' scva release before activation was recognized.

i used falcosoft's midiplayer v6.2 and/or vst driver v2.1.0 to load the vst.

I used these two programs:

- loopMIDI
- SAVIHost

Here is a screenshot with Doom 2 in DOSBox 😀
