This card arrived today: the Turtle Beach MultiSound Rev 01. I haven't been able to find a photo of one like it on the Internet. The black "IN VOL" knob sets it apart from other MultiSounds I've seen. It's so long, I had to take three photos of it (like the starship at the opening of Spaceballs).

Unfortunately, I don't think that it is working as it should. I loaded the drivers in Windows 3.1 but didn't get any sound capability. When I tried to switch the ports with the Control Panel app, I started to hear some clicking noises through the speaker. Then, Windows would just lock up whenever I tried to open the driver again. I tried this on two different computers.

I noticed one bulging cap (C85). I wish I knew how to solder.

Still, this is just a lovely card that I may be able to get working again someday. It came with the manual and two driver disks, both of which are fine (I already backed them up).

Here are some more photos. You can see the bulging cap better in the last photo.

Wow, is it preliminary version for computer magazine reviewers?
Is E-MU proteus same like late version?

Beauty USD 995 card.

Multisound won one of early PC Magazine comparsion test but it was standard late version without 3 jacks.:

Thanks for the link -- I hadn't seen that article.

Yes, the "preliminary drivers" disk made me wonder whether this was some kind of prototype, but I don't think so. Still, the drivers on that disk are older than the ones on the other disk.

I'm not sure if the EMU Proteus is the same one that's on later MultiSounds or not. It is "Rev A" and all the markings are visible in the photo.

I'd love to be able to get some recordings on my wavetable sample thread . . . someday.

On the later "Rev 02" soundcards there is a Proteus "Rev B". No idea about the differences against Rev A.

A rare find indeed, so congratulations.

Hello, have you been able to have the capacitor repaired eventually? This is a prototype or pre-series board and truly historically important! (Happily I've been able to find a pro guy last week who replaced 5 crushed caps on my TB Maui soundcard for a fee I could afford.)
