Currently consider purchasing a Roland SC-88VL for use on my laptop (which does not have MIDI interface), so I will be likely to take advantage of the Serial MIDI interface. The following I have found through my brief researches...

- Roland SC-88(VL) should be compatible with SC-55MkII (but some instruments are mapped differently with SC-55).
- I could use a Serial MIDI driver for Windows 95, while using SoftMPU for games in MS-DOS.

Then I started digging around for drivers and found it at an Edirol page (via Internet Archive), and found the driver over here:

http://web.archive.org/web/20050829103059/htt … rt/drivers.html

And looking at the table, the Windows Serial MIDI driver to use is this:

http://web.archive.org/web/20050829103059/htt … l32_wme9895.exe

But the problem is SC-88VL was not mentioned in the corresponding Readme file (http://web.archive.org/web/20050829103059/htt … 9895_readme.txt)... Only "SC-88" and "SC-88 Pro" are listed. Is it that Roland SC-88VL has some incompatibilities in regards of Serial MIDI interface? Or is it just unnecessary concerns?

Thanks in advance.

88VL is just a smaller standard 88. you should have no issues. I have an sc88vl (white) but not tried it via serial midi, only using roland usb-midi on windows and direct midi in dos via gameport
