Greetings Vogons,

Is it possible to permanently disable the variable filter used for digitized samples on a Sound Blaster 16? I am looking to get recordings of the card in games without filtering, but there doesn't seem to be any immediately apparent way to disable it.

Thanks!

No.
If the game supports 44.1kHz option that would be like disabling filtering in the audible band 20kHz.
11Khz sampling rate will filter at 5.5kHz (half).

All modern sound cards, audio interfaces and hardware players use this kind of filter, because without this filter there will be terrible aliasing.
