Hello all!

I have a Unisys CWD4002 486 PC with a Sound Blaster Vibra 16 in the ISA slot.

I have set up MS-DOS 6.22 on the computer, and everything is working normally there. When I was first setting it up, I managed to get the sound card installed and working, but after some other tweaks and changes (including Phil'sComputerLab Starter Pack), it's not working. When I go to c:\sb16\diagnose.exe, none of the four addresses work, and the sound card can't be detected.

Same situation if I go to install it again. For whatever reason, between last Thursday and Saturday, I did something that made it angry.

Any ideas? Maybe a fresh DOS install?

Thanks!

So I'm just going to reply with what I've done since the first post:

I installed a fresh copy of MS-DOS, and copied over fresh drivers. The specific drivers I used were:

PNPCFG folder from here: https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fil … menustate=42,35

Card drivers from here: https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fil … menustate=42,35

Running the PNPCFG install to get CTCM setup, and THEN installing the Vibra 16 drivers worked!

Or so I thought. I ran those right before I left the office, tested it out in Doom and Duke Nukem 2, and everything was working fantastic! I shut the machine off, packed it up, brought it home, and now I'm getting the same errors all over again. I'll post the entire message from startup here for debugging:

Creative DOS Multimedia Architecture (v1.00)
CTSOUND Physical-Level driver (v1.01) for Vibra 16.
Copyright (C) Creative Technology Ltd., 1993. All rights reserved.
Driver Unit Number = 0
Error CTSOUND1008: Invalid "/BLASTER=A:xxx" argument.

And then further on:

C:\>C:\VIBRA16\DIAGNOSE /S

Error: DIGN8002 The BLASTER environment settings are invalid.

Don't know where to go from here.

Just have time for a quick reply, but I had issues using Vibra drivers with my Vibra, then I tried regular SB16 drivers and they worked fine. Something to try if you haven't already. Good luck!

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

I'm going to give that a shot next.

But! Good news? Possibly!

I took the ISA riser and card all out, cleaned the contacts with isopropyl again, and cleaned the riser out, sprayed all the ISA slots with canned air again, and it's working?!

Things might be good to go, but things might also be still fucky. Who knows?!

Old thread bump but this helped me get my Vibra16 working in DOS - I had digital audio but no FM synth/MIDI/music

From the PNPCFG download, I had to run CTCU.EXE "Creative Plug and Play Configuration Utility" and in the PnP section I changed the "Configuration 0" to 1. After choosing "Reconfigure" and passing a test closed the tool, ran CTCM and it was happy then Doom was happy too playing that awesome soundtrack 😀
