USB-to-parallel dongles certainly won't work. Those can only drive printers, not other parallel port hardware. A PCI-Express parallel port will work. (If you have a laptop with a ExpressCard slot, that will work as well.)

On the software side, there isn't much support for Windows. Serge has an explanation here for how to use the OPL2LPT with VirtualBox on Windows 7: https://hackaday.io/project/28665-opl2lpt/log … sing-virtualbox

Can OPL2LPT work with midi in/out to be able to play with keyboard in Windows. Like for example relatively modern laptop without any FM synth + USB-Midi cable and OUT to opl2lpt? Should that work. Is it possible to make it work in winfows 98-xp? Or even 7? Windows 7 would be even more cool! That would make that thing truly universal.
Patching game is cool too, so it could be possible with 286

hey I have a question.

I recently got an opl3lpt, and I followed serge's instructions but for some reason my opl3lpt doesn't work on any machine's I've tried it on.
no sound outputting despite having usb power.

I've tried it on my modern computer which has a PCI-E parallel+Serial card, using freedos on virtual box as well as regular DOS but in both cases no luck
as well as on my XP machine which has an onboard parallel port loading freedos as the second OS for compatibility's sake.

is there any advice out there for troubleshooting this awesome piece of retro tech?

btw, there is some minor noise from the USB power connector and the led lights up so I know it definitely has power...

Could you try opl2test or opl3test utility on this XP computer, when booting directly to dos ? (use bootdisk ?)

Hello,
where is actual supported games list? Link from shop is pointed to link, where a dont need any list just github files, i tried to search within package, but i didnt find it.

Im old goal oriented goatman, i care about facts and freedom, not about egos+prejudices. Hoarding=sickness. If you want respect, gain it by your behavior. I hate stupid SW limits, SW=virtual world, everything should be possible if you have enough raw HW.

It depends on if you want a list of games that can be patched to work natively with opl2lpt or a list of games that works with the Adlipt TSR program.

https://github.com/pdewacht/adlipt/wiki/ADPATCH-Tested-Games

This is the slightly out of date list of tested games with the patcher. I know for sure that Wacky Wheels works on my 486 laptop with latest version of ADPATCH and thats not listed here.

With the ADLIPT driver there is not really any list. Basically all protected mode games will not work at all with the Adlipt driver. Only games that require only 640 kb of ram or less will run with the driver. As an example: Wolfenstein 3D will run with full Adlib sound with Adlipt driver turned on, but Doom will not even recognise the sound card being there.

Thanks, few more questions.

How patching works its on 1 game basis, i there is some program which scan some directory and patch all recognize games within?

Do i understand that some old games which using Adlib for sound have FX too and other games have only music and pc speaker sounds (if game have them)?

It seems to be on a 1 game basis, there is no way to scan and patch multiple games in a directory at once as far as I can tell.
Dreamblaster or Pdewacht knows for sure about this.

Your understanding about Adlib for sound is correct. Some games like for example Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 2, Stunts, Monkey Island and Prince of Persia v1.3 can use the Adlib synth both for music and sound effects.
A few games go even so far as having digital SFX with Adlib sound that is slightly worse sound quality wise than a original soundblaster. This includes games like Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies, Flashback and Another World to mention some.

Doom and Wacky Wheels are examples of games that support only music with Adlib and has PC speaker support for SFX.
My overall impression is that later MS-Dos games only support music with the Adlib card and not SFX.

so I finally got it working, took me a while because freedos was being a pain (did not know about the adv mode installer), but after getting dos 7.1 installed alongside windows XP I can say it works fully in dos mode without issues.

Could someone create some script to do that - i dont mind if it would be for Dos/Windows/Linux because i will run it once, or its impossible dues some patching limitations?

Or what about some patched pack of free game demos / shareare for testing?

Both of these suggestions sound quite nice for sure. There is one limitation I can think of though, the patcher does not patch compressed files. You would have to also use some sort of decompression tool, I just tested out a Dos program called UNP with Wolf3D.exe and it was only after I decompressed the exe file I could patch wolf3D. I guess you could include the patcher and a decompression tool in one package for convienience. Here is the site I got the UNP program from: http://unp.bencastricum.nl/

I have done an attempt at just this, its not prepatched though. You have to put the archive on your C drive on the dos testing machine of your choice and run a "runme.bat" file to do the patching. Here is the topic I posted for more details on the matter: The Unofficial OPL2LPT and OPL3LPT demopack (for convienient testing of Adpatch)

I am still waiting for a new release of adpatch that will enable patching for games using the HMI setup (Future Shock, Skynet, Tekwar, Daggerfall, etc..) 😢

Are they support Adlib at all?

Adlib is not listed in the sound setup, but there is the Sound blaster which use the same port for FM.

If it was not protected it would work, for others games the setup is ok with opl2lpt and the sound blaster selection (for FM only of course).

Hi,

The support for OPL2LPT is not there Yet, but I think the news from my player may be interesting for XT Computers and Adlib lovers 😀

https://youtu.be/xAyf9O49S-o

I have no OPL2LPT to test. I need probably one week to add it and release this version.
