Matze79: That's curious. The patched code does the standard 6 INs / 35 INs to provide the delays and with those timings that should work fine. Did you try games other than Keen? Do they all have the same problem? What does the OPL2TEST program do?

Zarchos: There's not a lot that can be done from inside the TSR, it runs in a rather constrained environment (16-bit protected mode, so it can't even access DOS or the BIOS). You might have better luck with a regular debugger. But you can get very far with just a simple disassembler, I'll publish a tutorial soonish.

I've got a new test version: http://2k38.be/adlipt/adliptx.exe
It doesn't fix the problems with GLX and IPLAY (I'm not sure if they can be fixed), but it fixes problems with some Adlib detection routines that I've encountered.
I've also added CPU detection code which hopefully works.
If nothing bad pop ups in the next couple of days I'll publish this as a real release.

Might as well. Will be doing some testing with the new experimental build tomorrow on different machines.

I did some testing with my 386sx33 (with 16kb of cache)/EGA setup with 3 games that I know well: Keen4, Biomenace1 and Dangerous Dave Risky Rescue - all had such a small speed penalty that it was negligible.
It seems like a good release to me - unless someone finds some serious bug.

8bitguy sent me out one a few days ago!

I got it yesterday and spent a couple careful hours assembling it.

I got it cranking on the first try! No re-work on the soldering. It's absolutely awesome!!! Best $45 i've ever spent. Now I can actually use all the damned 486 laptops I collect to play games WITH SOUND.

I couldn't stay up all night playing with it so, i'll have a better try at it tomorrow. I only got a chance to try it with some sierra games so far, and they all worked beautifully.

As you can see, i even got it working from Windows 95 MS-DOS command line.

Thought I'd start a YouTube channel and a quick 5 minute video of this sound card is my first attempt at a video 😀

Taken from Serdashop:

"A new batch, very limited edition available now.
- includes authentic legendary Yamaha OPL2 chips.
- includes headphone amp"

I was just wondering, what does that mean in regards to the earlier version that we got?
- Does ours not have a genuine OPL2 YM3812? (Pretty sure it does)
- Does ours not include a headphone amp? What's our potentiometer doing then, controlling a "generic amp?" (Pretty sure he meant the already present amp.)

I am sure that I just read this wrong and the wording in regards to the earlier batch is just off, but it makes the previous purchases sound inferior so I had to ask 😜

Ha, yeah there's a new batch, limited amount available. The schematic and pcb is exactly the same as the first batch.
I change the order in the description, to avoid confusion.

This board
  - includes authentic legendary Yamaha OPL2 chips.
  - includes a headphone amp
A new batch, very limited edition available now.

If you haven't already done it, I very highly recommend downloading the OPL2 version of Adlib Tracker II from http://www.adlibtracker.net/downloads.php and playing some of the sample modules. I've just sat listening to some for the last hour and they sound amazing on this little sound card!

What about the "slowdowns" the 8bit-guy and LGR are talking about? What is the recommended CPU power required for the OPL2LPT.
I own an ORANGE NUBUS PC-Card for a 68K Quadra700. This Thing has a native LPT1 breakoutcable/box but only a 486/sx25.

Thx Doc

These slowdowns refer to a now outdated version of the TSR driver, though, to be fair.

Both those youtubers have made their videos with version 0.4, IIRC.
The new version has big speed improvements (especially on the 386 machines), so these comments are not really accurate.

The driver gets faster with every new version released atm.

That's as expected 😀 yeah, seems to be a MUST-HAVE! I'll order it soon...after I figured out for what machine 😀

And that, deary, is the best part about it (besides the awesome authentic sound 😜), it's modularity allows you to quickly install and use it on any machines (especially recommended for laptops of the first half of the 90s) 😀

If it's a read, it's patched out.

I think it is better to redirect read to any other port, so the delays remains as before. Easier said than done though.
