I'm on a bit of a Crystal drive right now, having bought an interesting Crystal-based card for a Windows 98 PC I recently built. This topic is a pretty hard one to Google, and Wikipedia doesn't seem to have a page regarding Crystal and their sound cards. Can anyone help me compile a list of cards that utilised Crystal/Cirrus Logic codecs?

For starters, if you search for one of the following part numbers on, say, an auction site, you should get a few hits .

ISA :

CS4231 (Mediatrix Audiotrix Pro and others)
CS4236

PCI :

CS4280
CS4281
CS4624
CS4630 (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz)

The CS4231, CS4231A, and CS4248 were pin compatible audio codecs commonly used in sound cards paired with Aztech, ALS, early CMI, some Mediavision, or early Opti controller chips. They were also pin compatible with the AD1845 and AD1848 chips from Analog Devices.

The CS4232, CS4235, CS4236 (including the -B), and CS4237 (including the -B) incorporated both the controller and codec in one chip. I'm not as aware of Crystal PCI chipsets as I understand the DOS support to be spotty.
