I have the NX Pro and NX Pro 16 and it blew my mind that it had Disney Sound Source and Covox Speech Thing integrated. I need to find the SCSI and Sony CD-ROM drive boards sometime. The NX Pro needs to get looked at, but the NX Pro 16 (bought new) is perfect in my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus. Having Covox Speech Thing and Disney Sound Source on a sound card without buying the rare items for over $1,000 (there's a Covox to LPT available for a good price) is the frosting on the cake.

bjwil1991, do you happen to have a manual for NX Pro or NX Pro 16?
I am curious on the correct way to attach PC Speaker to the card. I can't find any information on that connector in AZTech cards unfortunately. While on Sound Blaster cards it is always designated with 'number 1' pin.

I can take a picture of the manual of how to connect the PC Speaker wire to the sound card.

That would be nice, thanks!
Have you tried connecting it?

Not yet. I tried to connect it to my Tandy 3 voice card and nothing. Maybe because it needs the ground wire in order to get it to work.

matze79, yes, you have already posted it on the previous page.
But you probably list all the games that support Covox / DSS/ MDO, while the topic is above exclusive games that support nothing except it and PC Speaker :)

The second one supports MDO ONLY in CGA mode - it is silent in VGA... And I can't get sound working in 'No Exit' even in CGA. Maybe some tweaking is possible?

OK - this problem is solved!
With 'No Exit' it was some glitch of DOSBox SVN Daum - with other forks and on real old PC the sound is there.
And with 'Astérix', in order to have MDO sound in DOSBox, all memory managers must be turned off in CONF-file: xms=false, ems=false, umb=false.

So these two games could be added to the list of Covox / DSS / MDO exclusives.

Well, I did not wait for that picture and made today a connector to try everything myself :)

It is strange, but both ways of connecting the wire (red+black and black+red) give the same result - and neither of them is fine. The sound is very quite and noisy.

BUT - if I connect only one, the red wire from the motherboard to the upper pin of the NX Pro - then the PC Speaker sound is loud and clear!
The quality is even close to that of DSS/Covox (in applications that supports them both, like Scream Trackers or RealSound games), but 'Sound Blaster Pro' option still sounds better of course.

I happen to have bought my Sound Galaxy Basic/Pro16 new(uses the same chipset as the NX Pro 16) and it came with a speaker wire that only has a red wire.

Ah, that's interesting!
So what's the second pin for? Does your card come with any manual?

My card is NX Pro Extra (I38-SGNXPRO), but yes, cards like NX Pro / NX Pro 16 / NX Pro 16 Extra / Pro 16 are mostly the same.

I think the second pin is for ground but, I don't think it's required when you connect the wire between your sound card and your motherboard's speaker header.
Yes, I've attached an excerpt of the part of the manual where it mentions the speaker cable.
I also have the I38-SGNXPRO (in its box with manuals) but, that one is currently tucked away in storage.

jesolo, thanks for the part of the manual!

It is interesting that it mentions connecting PC Speaker to 'Phone' as well.

Yes, but why the sound becomes very bad if I connect two pins instead of just one?

Have you tried connecting PC Speaker to your card?

Yes, sounded much better than through the speaker itself.
