I love it. Do you think it would be possible to create an ISA version as well? 8 bit card with Keystone ISA bracket?

if you are looking for a MIDI interface ISA card, I can highly recommend this MPU clone card project : Music Quest MPU clone cards, anyone interested in them?
The latest revision has a waveblaster header so you could add X2 or S2 inside, and connect your real MT32 outside 😀

Looks neat. However there are no schematics available, right? I like assembling my own cards. But other than that it looks very nice.

You can also look into the HardMPU project which has a little more DIY flavour to it.

Well, I would be more interested in a wavetable synth + MPU on one card. Like a DIY wavetable soundcard. Or maybe even using softmpu as the driver, if a hardware MPU would be too much. But I had so much fun building the adlib clone, I would really enjoy doing the next step up...

Final design of S2P 3d printed enclosure, I now have plenty of stock of both the PCB and the enclosure.
PM me if you like a special offer -- free enclosure with your S2P -- 😀

I have a few questions regarding the S2P:

1. How is progress on the patcher utility for S2P?
2. Is the patcher only compatible with General Midi games only? Will it work with GS (sound canvas) or MT-32 mode games?
3. Are there plans for a midi test program/midi player that is compatible with S2P without the use of SoftMPU? (kinda like the OPL test for opl2lpt)
4. Are there any differences in sound quality between this version of the S2 and the original Wavetable header version?

I have a MIDI player for the S2P that works on 8088, and has an MT-32 mode as well.

Yea, there's a version I posted on Dropbox earlier: DreamBlaster S2P : Small form factor General MIDI on parallel port

Hey can someone sanity check me? I'm not having any luck making any sound with this.

- I have the S2P plugged in to a laptop's parallel port (Thinkpad 390X), DOS 6.2 installed.
- I had to configure the machine to install EMM386.exe before SOFTMPU would install.
- According to what I read earlier in the thread, DPMI games aren't going to work (and this appears to be the case, no DOOM or Ultima 6 audio).
- I tried Ultima 4 in the various GM and Sound Canvas modes, and the S2P player tool mentioned earlier in this thread, but still nothing.
- The CVX4 was line-level, so I'm assuming this is also line level. Alas, running the audio through amplified speakers is still silent.
- Clicking the button, or unplugging/re-plugging-in the power does pop

Can someone give me an example game that should work out of the box (with SoftMPU on 0x330)?

Got it working with Rise of the Dragon. Woo!

Interestingly, the configuration/installer detects the SoftMPU driver as an Roland Sound Canvas/MT32 (i.e. MPU-401). I tried running the config tool after a fresh reboot, and noticed I couldn't select it.

Anyway, it works! Good good. Now that I know it works, it should be good for my audio coding.

EDIT: PS, it turns out I was wrong about it being line-level, which is great... albeit a bit too loud for my headphones. 🤣

I shall dig out my old post/question, as this has been pondering my mind for quite some time now again...

"Will there be a Win3.1 driver available? I guess a TSR for remapping under DOS is in planning, but what about being able to use the General MIDI capabilities under Win3.1? That would be handy for Win3.1 games.
MIDI output over S2P and sounds over speaker with PC-speaker driver, or - if you have 2 LPT ports, even CVX4." (Example would be SimCity for Windows or Civilization, where you would use the PC Speaker WAV driver (or CVX4 if you have two parallel ports (!)) for sound, alongside the S2P for MIDI playback)

This just sounds too good to be true. Anyone familiar with writing drivers for Win3.1? There is a vast list of early/mid Win3.1 games that use wav files for sound effects and midi for music, which would benefit drastically when having sound and midi available.
