The Buran firmware had 100% reverb and chorus mix settings, which sounds a quite too wet when combined with the Buran bank.

I changed the firmware defaults now, so for next boards shipping, no action needed.
But if you have an existing board, you can upload this preset file (see attachment), using X3MUpload, to set the effects accordingly.

What I want to know, is does this thing include a LEGO play set with build instructions

Hehe, no... only the enclosure, no 'figures', no additional weapons...
But if you still have lego space stuff laying around, ... yeah the enclosure is inofficially 'brick' compatible 😀

Some more effects presets to try out.
Roomy = the medium effects
Refined = rather subtle sound like previous X3M
Blast = all out exaggerated, sounds good for some games
Default = revert to default settings of the firmware. (previous 2.00 firmware had a lot of reverb, in 2.01 it is toned down a bit in the default settings.)

In general, you can use the X3MPreset editor to adjust the sound according to your taste and speaker setup.

We are nearing november 15th... 30y anniversary of the Buran launch...

small note : the buran bank and presets also work on X2, so you can try along, and provide your comments here.
What would be the perfect buran preset ?

Yeah the X3M is really cool.
I can't stop playing Games with it 😉 it sounds very good and clean.

Now also Monkey Island sounds fine.
And Descent :DDDD rocks!

I've been playing around with the presets; 63 for Chorus and Reverb make it sound the most like a Sound Canvas module (which incidentally also defaults to 50% chorus and reverb..), I'm also experimenting with the other Chorus and Reverb types.

I don't get how the equalizer is supposed to work though. Gain, I can udnerstand, but frequency? Do I pick a frequency and apply the gain to that, then the curve shifts accordingly?

Here's my favorite attempt so far, I tried to get a rich sound with punchy bass and warm highs, i.e. something similar to the SC-55. I think it worked. I initially tried this with some Amp Gain as well but the basses clipped for some instruments, particularly synth drums in things like System Shock Intro.. So it's a bit quieter than I would have liked, but that's better than clipping artifacts.

Had the time to listen to my recordings some more and it seems I killed the middle way too much, so here is a smoother equalizer curve. I tried to add some preamp but that did not work out because as much as I would like to boost the final volume that makes distortion and clipping in the bass is inevitable in titles like System Shock. It was a compromise between frequency range and loudness, and I went for the former. I think it's still a punchy preset that works great for my MIDI test suite. I will now go ahead and do some recordings with this to put up on Soundcloud.

This is how it sounds: https://soundcloud.com/user-470084971/sets/dr … an-09-soundbank

I really think this preset makes it sound a lot like the MT-32/SC-55.

By all means, of course.
