I noticed that some soundboards (awe64g) have speaker connector.
What is its purpose? You connect PC speaker device to it, and sound of card comes out on the tiny speaker?
Or you connect board output for speaker, so you can hear beep sounds in speakers? Don't know 🙁

Hi, I think it's the first use case. So speaker sounds can be played via external speaker boxes (or a pair of headphones).
Nowadays, it might be different, though, not sure. The PAS16 listened to bus signals to play speaker sounds, I recall.

Edit: Some DOS/Win16 games from the 1980s/90s play music via AdLib, but sound effects via PC speaker.
So mixing both audio sources on a soundcard makes sense to me.

Some Sound Blasters have two connectors for the PC speaker.
One is an input for the PC speaker from the motherboard to the soundcard's mixer.
The other is an output of the mixer to the PC speaker.
This way you can play all sounds through the PC speaker, and you get volume control as well.

Ah yes, very true. By "device" I thought of the 8253 timer chip.. You're right. 😅
