As much as I dislike Bose, I will say a pair of Video Roommates will work well for this. I have the regular Roommate II's that I've owned since '94 and I've always used them for desktop speakers. Never had any discoloration, but the Video Roommates actually factually have magnetic shielding plus they have a volume knob that the Roommate II's lack. Get a used pair from Ebay for dirt cheap and you're good.
