I have an Addonics-manufactured YMF-718 sound card in one of my computers here. When I'm playing anything to a Waveblaster-compatible card (I have two here, one is KS0164-based while the other is CS9233-based) the sound quality drops drastically. At first, I thought it was just very compressed samples on both, but the Wave sound quality drops in Windows 98 as well whenever MIDI is being sent to the WaveBlaster header, even if its muted. It sounds very muffled, but isn't clipping. Am I missing something here?

I have seen one YMF71x sound card where WB header signals lacked DC blocking caps and connecting a random WB device there had serious effect on sound quality though it mosty resulted in clipping related artifacts rather than sounds getting outright muffred. Can you show a photo of the card or perhaps identify it from here : http://www.tmeeco.eu/BitShit/YamahaCards/
