DB15MIDI : DB15 (Joystick) to 2x MIDI OUT converter

Postby dreamblaster » 2019-2-03 @ 10:36

Hi,

as I ran out of Joystick-MIDI cables, and promised a friend to make a solution for him.
I had this small run (12pcs) of DB15MIDI PCB's produced.
It is a simple PCB that allows to connect 2 MIDI modules to your DB15 joystick port.
Connectors :
- DB15 (Joystick MIDI)
- 2 x DIN connector (MIDI OUT)

It works well for my setup, but I'd love some more feedback :
- does it work fine for you ?
- is the form factor OK ?
- does it need a 3d printed enclosure ?

So I am giving 8 of these away with purchase of any product from my webshop.

Not sure about the form factor, and yes, it needs an enclosure of some kind. I think turning it into a "all in the cable" device instead of a box type device would probably be more usable, at least for me personally it would. Perhaps it's a girly thing, but I'm not that fond of exposed PCBs on the outside of the computer case.
WinXP : PIII 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 73GB SCSI HDD, Matrox Parhelia, SB Audigy 2.
Win98se : K6-3+ 500MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Matrox Millennium G400 MAX, Voodoo 2, Waveforce 192XG.
DOS6.22 : Intel DX4, 64MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, ELSA Winner 1000PRO, GUS 1MB, SB16.

Would it fit in the bottommost slots ? I think the PCB will touch the metal edge on the bottom in most computer cases.

I imagine a version in a DB15 shell with 2x MIDI cables coming out to be more useful, you could probably just cut an existing MIDI cable in half and connect to a PCB in the shell. Should result in a pretty ok solution, similar to the LPT devices.
