Some good, some bad:

https://youtu.be/VALEBlyXYTQ

GSLINGER.MOD [1] crashes, everything > 8 channels needs a lower mixing rate than 44kHz on my 386, which is probably not really a surprise. Any particular MODs I should test?

EDIT: Satellite One S3M by Purple Motion [2] hangs completely while loading.

EDIT 2: Starshine [3] doesn't work either, crash upon loading.

EDIT 3: After loading the above, I need a hard reset to get the machine working again. Else C drive has boot sector not found. If I type "dir" afterwards, I see garbage. Do you overwrite stuff in the UMBs? Shadowed BIOS maybe...?

Hi,

GSLIDER crash as well for me, the other are Ok under DOSBOX.

To be checked....

I did reduce the Pascal Heap to have DOPE.MOD Loading, so maby not sufficient memory.
If wou try to move these files to a folder with no other modules, is it the same ?

FreddyV

Edit: Crash as well on release 8&9, will be difficult to find
If I modify the music to not start anymore the sample 8 in the first row, it is working.
Sample 8 played after does not crash
Edit again (20Mn later) : Found the problem. At the music start, the period is set to FFFF. This sample is started without note and use a Fine Tune -> Division OverFlow

In theory I have plenty of memory available. >600KiB base, plus UMB and EMS. However as I said: after those hangs and crashes some parts of my XT BIOS does not seem to work anymore until I do a powercycle. Since I have BIOS shadowing enabled, this looks like some parts in the UMB get overwritten.

I was thinking about the Pascal Heap, it is some memory reserved by the pascal just after the Executable.

If you unselect UMB in the Options, it will not use UMB, Can you try this, just to check ?

I will try to check what can be special in these modules.
Was it working in the previous version ?

EDIT: Error 203 is Heap OverFlow, this is probably what I was explaining.

Ok, GSLINGER still crashes, as expected. For some reason the other S3Ms suddenly work...? I did not change anything apart from copying release 9 onto the CF disk and retrying. 😉

Teensy "bug": Try going to pause mode and try to switch to different panel using F1/F2/F3. Watch the volume meters!

Hi,

This confirm that the Heap size is the problem, as Mod Master store the file name in memory.
The more file you have, the more memory it take.

I will increase the Heap Size.

I will need some advise for the display while playing.
When we do F4, now it show all the channels, then, the space taken by the volume and period bar are now useless.
I can add more info in this space, keep it blank or try to reduce everything to display more channels…

Any Idea ?

Having the ability to display all the channels in the volume and note/pitch section at the top would be a nice option. Also 43/50 line mode support might be nice and would add more space. Of course also more time for redrawing. So it should be optional.

Tried the latest version with the custom dac option and the adlib clone that is discussed here: Rainbow Arts Soundman ? Adlib Clone - can it play Digital Sound ?
It works great and I like it

dRT7Enim.png

It only needs some small changes IMHO like not defaulting to French language and maybe be able to select output device in the program it self, without having to use command line options to enable things... not sure if it can be made - just a suggestion
btw, I have not read the whole thread yet - is there any playlist support in the program?

Hi,

it is defaulted to English, but there may still be some french here and there.
If you find some, tell me. (I remove dual language to reduce the size)

Press t to change the output.
You will have to add the port each time in the command line, so you can simply create a .BAT file. (I will add custom dac port save in the future)

Yes, Playlist is supported: Press space to add a module in the list.

Modmaster does not work on my 386SX 16Mhz System,

it loads a MOD File and you hear a short burst of sound, then its silent.
The Graphical Bars raise and sink ultra slow.

This happens with SB, Covox and Speaker, i have no idea why, is there a Debug Mode ?
GLX Player just works fine here.

On my NEC V20 it works 😀

What are your BLASTER settings? What does the program display on startup? I had problems once when I didn’t specify the T parameter of the BLASTER variable.

Mod Master conflicts with Tandy Card at 0C0h on 386.
If i set the Card to 1E0h it works just fine.

Yes it is, you have the Playlist buttons just on the right (Load/Save and so on)

Clubic player is better than MOD Master on a 486, and I have a "Better" Version of Mod Master in VGA.
Anyway, if you like it, it is not a problem for me 😀

The VGA Version of Mod MAster is untouched since 1997, it has some replay bug that Mod Master XT does not have anymore.
(If you search in this thread, I think I did publish Mod Master 2.3)
