I have Aureal Vortex Advantage AU8810A1 PCI sound card. I am using sound card only under DOS at the moment. I noticed that sounds are quieter than from my other sound cards (YMF724 or SB Live).

My AU10DOS.INI file contents look like this:

I tried changing numbers from master volume to something other than 0x00 but heard no difference.

Is there any MS-DOS mixer utility for this model to change volume settings or is the card just quieter? I had to attenuate this card 9 dB to match the sound output level of my other cards in this machine. So far haven't noticed any quality loss but I haven't tested with headphones yet.

I saw a mixer utility for AU8830 card and some other utility for both Vortex 1 and 2 cards but not for Advantage which I have.

Any mixer utility to change volumes for AU8810?

I came across this post while trying to figure out how to change the mixer settings in DOS for a Vortex 1. If it's a soundblaster or SB Pro compatible like the Vortex 1 you can just use a soundblaster mixer program and not something specific from Aureal. I used a program called sbmix to adjust my CD volume since my game music was almost inaudible (sbmix from https://www.bttr-software.de/products/sbmix/). According to the marketing for the Advantage it is also SB Pro compatible so hopefully this program or something like it should work.
