I've been continuing to work on my retro-synth PC project based around putting an AOpen AW744 II into a Dell Dimension 3000 running win98SE, and have seen good success with the VL stuff.

Now I've decided to try to get the legacy side of the card working, and have had some difficulties. I've used the ICH5 setupds, and had to play with the settings a lot to get it to work. This is what I have right now,

This is pretty much the only way of setting things that gets it to work at all, and currently, the 8-bit sound is not working, though 16 bit and FM is.

Additionally, to get any sound, I have to run setupds every time the computer is booted, and I'm thinking that there should be a way to not have to do this, but since I don't know that much about DOS, I don't really know what it is. Also, there is no FM sound when running dos programs from Win98. I don't know if this is related, but I think it might be since setupds won't run from windows.

Does anyone have any insight on how to get it working better?
